I think this chain of revolutionary incidents happening to our college is for the best. I believe, this is only the beginning of the "Thought process" in every student's mind. When he comes up with his picture of "My college" and expresses his opinions about the betterment of the campus, definitely the system's going to change.
The crucial factor in this discussion although, is not the present but the future. Unfortunately, the majority (80% or so) students at BITS are NOT interested in Engineering acads... They're here just for the "reputation (?)" and their parents' satisfaction. You may think that I kinda am messing up with the numbers.. but take a look around your previous hostel room .. your neighbours in the corridors.. I think hardly 5 in the 30 student's corridor like engineering acads. They end up in taking humanities courses even in Fourth year. So, following this "revolutionary achievements" there is a fair chance that students (Collectively) may protest against extra classes, lab exams or compulsory MT labs or inclusion of courses like workshop practice and physics 2. And I think students are not supposed to take those decisions entirely by themselves, though they should be involved in the decision making process. But such students should be representatives of students who like engineering acads and want to remain in the technical field. This representation criterion is however not easy to be met with our normal election procedure. So every department head/ associations should appoint a person for this purpose.
While making a difference on the basis of "Students' college", BITS should not compromise on engineering acads and matters related to it, based on the opinion of that students' body which also organizes waves and decides when to screen a movie.
(This article is written also taking in mind Prof. Barve's unfortunate suspension from the college.)

People who want to follow acads will continue to do that. Why should they worry about others?
ReplyDeleteI only expect from hooligans (quite harsh, yes I know) that they do whatever they want to without interfering academic issues.
Good for both. Not that I'm saying they suck, I would have the same opinion even if I were on the other side of the fence.
Well, one cannot totally isolate people in these two categories. There's a collective mentality that promotes bunking of classes, partying at beaches and banning extra classes. This mentality originates from non-motivated students and their pride(?) in hating academics. As I can see there's majority of such people around (if you observe your own corridor or any group of people sitting in mess); there's always a threat to extra academic activities. As a result, there are not many VLSI study groups, DSP enthusiast' gatherings and live machine drawing competitions... :(
ReplyDeleteOne of the solutions to this problem is keeping those events voluntary. Extra labs should be totally bunkable for non-interested, non-motivated people. They may fool around the campus making fun of them...
What are live drawing machines?
ReplyDeletelive drawing machinaes nahi re... live machine drawing comptt.. machine drawing is kinda mech related.. tyala tyachya comptt mhanaycha asel
ReplyDelete3 guesses >
ReplyDelete1. draw diagrams of lab equipments by keeping them in front of you
2. Take some machine which can draw. (pen or CRO?). Ask all people to draw - topic - DSP - the love of my life
3. may be it's a typo. he meant - live machine sawing - chk this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sawing
Guys, Please stick to the topic of the discussion...
ReplyDeleteMy point is:
NAAC certainly does not give a damn to waves or dance nights... neither do companies coming for placements
Acads should not be compromised at any cost...
